POLARITIES OF NATURE
SOLO EXHIBITION
RE.CO GALLERY, KERIKERI, BAY OF ISLANDS, NZ - OCTOBER 2006
EXHIBITION STATEMENT
Jane has been working as a full-time artist since 2003 and recently moved up to Peria Valley Northland where she works from her home studio. She completed a Bachelor of Design at Unitec Auckland in 2000 specialising in 3-dimensional materials. At Unitec she worked mainly with concrete, pumice, rocks and other natural resources creating sculptural outdoor furniture and lighting.
Jane is currently creating wall-hung artworks that have a 3-dimensional element to them. She builds up layers with a variety of mixed media, which may include cement, sand, stones, various fillers, artificial plants, polyurethane, acrylics & oils.
This exhibition is inspired from both polarities of nature. She states ‘the wind, light, sun, rain, shadows, movement, flow amongst the trees, grass, the rocks are all very beautiful to me; yet these elements are also part in the global catastrophes happening at an ever increasing rate around us such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, flooding, tsunami’s etc.’
